I love it when I hear a song that fits into absolutely no known genre rubric and I have to invent some new combination of words to describe it. For instance, if I told you that the London trio Ebbb's new single "Public" is dreamy chamber-rage, would that even mean anything to you? Do you think that'll catch on?
Or do I have to come up with a stupid nonsense word like blinggaze or something? After building a name for themselves in London indie circles, Ebbb released their debut album Shallow Hits over the summer. Today, they follow that record with "Public," a weird and pretty standalone single that puts Will Rowland's unearthly sad-choirboy vocals over lurching, glimmering electronic production that calls to mind Bladee and Beach House at the same time.
The band says, "It's about confronting fears, moving forward, and not losing sight of who you are." It's good shit! Shallow Hits and "Public" are both out now on Ninja Tune.
