ESPN's "First Take" focused on the biggest NFL story of the weekend during Monday morning's episode: the return of three-time Defensive Player of the Year Aaron Donald. More specifically, Stephen A. Smith, Adam Schefter and Dan Orlovsky argued over idea that Donald signing with the Los Angeles Rams is similar to Tom Brady signing with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before their Super Bowl title in 2020.
The Rams were already the clear preseason Super Bowl favorites before signing Donald. And Orlovsky thinks the Buccaneers were in a similar position before adding Brady. Smith and Schefter vehemently disagreed.
"When Tom Brady went to the Bucs, that was the team that was going to win the Super Bowl," Orlovsky said. "No it was not," Schefter replied. "He made them 'a' favorite — maybe." Donald, 35, signed a one-year, $20 million deal to return to the Rams on Sunday.
The all-time great NFL pass rusher joins reigning NFL MVP Matthew Stafford and reigning Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett. The Rams will kickoff their 2026 regular-season schedule with a Week 1 matchup against the San Francisco 49ers in Australia on Sept. 10.
