In the aftermath of his firing from ESPN, Ryan Clark has been making the rounds of interviews and promoting his new studio show, “The Pivot Sports with Ryan Clark." While he's still getting to flex the muscles he used on "NFL Live," the question remains: Why not join a rival of his former employer? As he told "The Breakfast Club" on Thursday, that simply wasn't an option for him. Clark has a noncompete clause, which doesn't run out until the end of the NFL season, according to Brendon Kleen of Awful Announcing.
Because as the contract goes, if you are laid off, you get to be paid. Which for me is the last day of February,” he said. Given his experience and stature, he'd likely be a welcomed addition to any of those sports departments.
He also would love to be back to doing what he loves. Even without the platform of "NFL Live," Clark said he felt compelled to find an outlet for his passion this season. "“And then I have 'The Pivot' as well.
So now these things that I’m passionate about and I believe are part of my purpose, I get to do that too. I’m only going to tell the truth. [But] there were times that I was there where [I could do both].” Clearly, Clark would like to keep "The Pivot" going while returning to television soon. In the meantime, Clark will be enjoying being his own boss.
As he told The Athletic recently, he's focused on the present and the future, not the past.
