Searchlight has officially announced “The Family Stone 2,” a sequel to the 2005 holiday classic from returning writer and director Tom Bezucha. The follow-up is officially titled “The Families Stones” and will feature the returns of many of the original’s main cast members, including Rachel McAdams as Amy Stone and Sarah Jessica Parker as Meredith Morton. The confirmed cast also includes the following: Claire Danes (Julie Morton), Dermot Mulroney (Everett Stone), Craig T.
Nelson (Kelly Stone), Luke Wilson (Ben Stone), Tyrone Giordano (Thad Stone), Elizabeth Reaser (Susannah Stone), Paul Schneider (Brad Stevenson) and Brian White (Patrick Thomas). The announcement came shortly after the death of Diane Keaton, who played the Stone family matriarch Sybil in the first movie. The title “Family Stone” has a double meaning.
Stone is Everett’s family name. Released in Dec. of 2005, “The Family Stone” opened strong to $12 million against its budget of just $18 million. It went on to earn $92 million worldwide during its box office run.
