The Spanish sales company will introduce the drama to buyers at TIFF before its premiere in San Sebastián’s New Directors section. The pickup gives Filmax the first feature from a filmmaker whose profile rose with 2024 Disney+ series “I, Addict,” the acclaimed adaptation of Giner’s own experiences.

Giner co-wrote the film with Luisa Matienzo. Pla and Salas play Leo and Lorea, a couple struggling to move on after their five-year relationship ends. Set in Bilbao, the drama follows them on parallel paths as Leo copes with his father’s illness and growing emotional disconnection, while Lorea navigates precarious jobs and personal crises as she tries to rebuild her life.

Iván Díaz, head of international at Filmax, said Giner has generated “a great deal of attention and interest, both in Spain and in other territories” thanks to “I, Addict,” which “worked really well for Disney.” Produced by Miguel Torrente and Matienzo, “This Solitude” is a production of Fuga de Cuerpos, Balance Media Entertainment, La Embajada TV and Basajaun Filmak. Filmax will release the film theatrically in Spain on Oct. 30.
