From narrative details to a complex combat system, there's a lot to unpack in Hamaguchi's latest interview about Final Fantasy 7 Revelation.

Final Fantasy 7 Revelation won't come out until April 2027, but the developers have been gradually pulling back the curtain, revealing more details about the trilogy's final entry. In a recent interview held during the 2026 Paris Game Week, whose contents have been shared online by fans, Naoki Hamaguchi, director of the Final Fantasy 7 remake trilogy, dove deeper into Revelation's narrative, world map, and combat system, giving players an even better feel for what the game will be like. With a meteor en route to destroy the planet, the sense of impending doom is strong in Final Fantasy 7 Revelation.

In this scenario, existential themes take precedence over the sense of despair and urgency. Instead of rushing to stop Sephiroth, characters must become acquainted with the world around them and undergo their own personal trials in order to understand their reasons for fighting. Rather than making side quests feel trivial, Revelation's narrative is designed to incentivize players to explore and help NPCs.

Map exploration and side quest completion are key elements of Final Fantasy 7 Revelation. That is why the team has invested a lot of time and resources into creating a map that loads seamlessly despite its impressive size. According to Hamaguchi, when players jump from the Highwind, they will see a large portion of the world as the game loads low-resolution assets.

The game loads high-detail data as players approach and discards it as they move away to free up space and optimize performance. It is well worth exploring — especially the Deepground in Midgar, which just got a sneak peek in the form of a new gameplay trailer you can watch below. But exploring every nook and cranny and completing every quest won't necessarily make players feel that their characters are overpowered, as the game's Dynamic Mode guarantees a balanced experience.

This difficulty setting scales enemies to match the player's level, allowing them to complete as much side content as they wish before continuing the main story. The objective is for players to have a fun experience tailored to their personal preferences. Hamaguchi and battle director Teruki Endo have playtested Revelation extensively to ensure that it's beatable whether players use the FITS system or not.

The FITS system will add another layer of complexity to Final Fantasy 7's combat, as it assigns traits that change a character's battle style. However, it is completely optional, and gamers are welcome to test it out and try different combinations. Hamaguchi revealed in this latest interview that players will have the option to create up to five loadout presets per character, selecting materia, weapons, and equipment fit for each situation.
