The elusive singer has been more active than usual this year, releasing a song for the TV series Lucky and co-writing one of the tracks on Cara Delevingne's debut album. In July, she posted a video to update her fans on her music, saying she was struggling to write about the world's "endless barrage of horrors." Now, in the wake of the Democrats winning majorities in both houses of Congress, she's sharing a new song with the Bolt Cutters, aka David Garza, Sebastian Steinberg, and Amy Aileen Wood. The new song is a cover of Mother Earth's 1968 protest song "Revolution," and it's a part of a Dougie Bowne-produced benefit album called Right Now, whose proceeds will go to Doctors Without Borders.

The announcement was made on Apple's best friend Zelda Hallman's Instagram, and the song is only available there for now. Read the full statement and check out the track below. It has a pulse, and it’s growing.

This week’s election gave us something we’ve needed: hope for a more progressive, compassionate, inclusive, and just future. Tuesday was a victory, but only a beginning. To celebrate and punctuate, The Bolt Cutters — Davíd Garza, Sebastian Steinberg, Fiona Apple, and Amy Aileen Wood — recorded their version of Mother Earth’s “Revolution.” Scattered from Los Angeles to Houston to the East Coast, they recorded their parts remotely; Amy masterfully brought them together to capture this moment’s energy.

All across the world, people are marching for justice, freedom, and peace. Dockworkers are refusing to lend their labor to weapons shipments. People are confronting ICE, demanding freedom for Palestine, and calling for an end to the bombing of Gaza.

From Ukraine to Sudan, the Congo, Yemen, and Myanmar, civilians face war, hunger, and displacement. People are fighting for reproductive rights, bodily autonomy, health care, and equal protection — regardless of race, religion, gender, or immigration status. For due process instead of detention and deportation without a fair hearing.

For treaties with Indigenous peoples and Tribal Nations to be honored, and for justice for Native, Black, and LGBTQ+ communities. Especially for those deaths and disappearances of young people that remain unsolved and poorly explained. Our tax dollars should be spent feeding children, not bombing them while the wealthiest pay nothing and take everything.
