I’m a big fan of The Lowdown, a locker specifically designed to be an entertainment center thanks to cutouts for wires on the back panel. I currently have my record player sitting on top with its speakers, and my records and other entertainment accessories stored inside. It was pretty easy to put together and looks great in my living room.

They’re available in a wide range of styles, from tall and skinny like you had in high school to short and squat. I plan to get another to store my shoes and coats. They’re especially nice for renters who need apartment-friendly storage, and I like that they’re magnetic too.
While assembly took a bit of time, there were helpful video instructions online, which meant I could avoid puzzling over the printed paper instructions.
