Cornerback Greg Newsome II agreed to a three-year, $46 million contract extension with the New York Giants on Tuesday. Newsome, who was traded from the Cleveland Browns to the Jacksonville Jaguars midway through the 2025 season, signed with the Giants on a one-year, $8 million deal this past offseason. His new deal with the New York franchise reportedly includes $32 million in guaranteed money.
Newsome reacted to his contract news with a statement on social media. "BIG BLUE WE ARE HERE TO STAY," he wrote on X. Six games into his first season with the Giants, Newsome has one interception, six passes defended and 25 tackles.
"I feel like this is an opportunity for me to be here longterm," Newsome said after signing his one-year contract this past offseason. "There was other places that could have [given me] longer term deals, but I wanted to be here. I wanted to showcase myself in front of the New York fanbase.
"Hopefully we get something done where I can retire a Giant, because that's what I want to do." The Giants currently lead the NFC East with a 4-2-1 record. They notched an impressive road victory over the Houston Texans in Week 7 before heading into their bye in Week 8. This coming Sunday, the Giants will matchup against the division-rival Philadelphia Eagles in a Week 9 clash.
