During the Giants' Week 6 matchup against the New Orleans Saints, cornerback Greg Newsome was forced to leave the game early after suffering a concussion. "CB Greg Newsome is out with a concussion," ESPN's Jordan Raanan reported on X. Newsome was officially ruled out of the Giants' matchup against the Saints ahead of the fourth quarter.
When noting that Newsome is a key part of the Giants' defense, it is undoubtedly concerning that he has suffered a concussion. Now, New York will be forced to adjust while he is sidelined. Newsome is currently in his first season with the Giants after signing a one-year, $8 million contract with them in free agency.
This was after the 2021 first-round pick split this past season between the Cleveland Browns and Jacksonville Jaguars, where he had 52 combined tackles in 17 games. In five games this season with the Giants, Newsome has recorded 22 combined tackles. Overall, he has had a decent start to his tenure with the Giants, so they will be hoping that he has a speedy recovery.
