The New York Giants quickly brought back one of their most notable releases ahead of the 53-man roster deadline. New York will sign Jalin Hyatt to its practice squad, per NFL insider Jordan Schultz. The Giants wide receiver cleared waivers after getting cut on Sunday.
Hyatt won the Fred Biletnikoff Award after tallying 1,267 yards and 15 touchdowns during his final year at Tennessee. He's yet to make a steady NFL impact since the Giants drafted him in the third round in 2023. The speedy wideout demonstrated some deep-play potential by turning 23 catches into 373 yards as a rookie, but he's garnered 97 yards in 24 games over the last two seasons.
Hyatt was inactive for four of New York's final five games last season, playing just four snaps in a Week 15 loss to the Washington Commanders. Big Blue drafted a wide receiver in nearly the same spot as Hyatt, selecting Notre Dame's Malachi Fields one pick later at No. 74 this year. The Giants also signed Darnell Mooney and brought back franchise icon Odell Beckham Jr. eight years after he last played for the organization.
New York made some other notable preseason cuts to the receiver room, releasing Braxton Berrios and Isaiah Hodgins. The Giants also signed Berrios to the practice squad and expect him to play in their season-opener against the Dallas Cowboys on Sept. 13, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Despite speculation to the contrary, Hyatt hasn't quickly lost his jersey number.
ESPN's Jordan Raanan spotted him in Monday's practice still wearing No. 13 next to Beckham, who continued to don No. 3 despite wearing No. 13 in his first stint with the Giants.
