GTA 6's Nudity Sure Sounds Hopelessly Outdated

GTA 6's nude leaks suggest Rockstar isn't treating the crime game with the maturity and sense of realism that it promised

More GTA 6 leaks are spilling out, despite Rockstar's best efforts, and one of the bigger ones seems to be Jason's penis. Well, I haven't seen the video as it's been taken down, so I don't know how big that particular leak is. But the context around it all has me more than a little disappointed, if these reports are indeed representative of what will be in the full release.

Sure, Jason and his partner-in-crime (and sometimes life) Lucia are hot. But there's little value or excitement in just running around naked all the time, for no reason and with apparently no reaction from anyone else. Yes, yes, GTA 6 is set in a place literally called Vice City, whose real-world inspiration (Miami) simply treats nudity with less taboo than elsewhere in the U.S.

Nude beaches and resorts aren’t just common — one is literally operated by the municipal government (and ranked in the top 10 nude beaches globally). Strip clubs are so common in the area that the Miami Herald keeps a directory of them, more than three dozen across the two counties Miami straddles. Anecdotally, everyone has a story, either first- or second-hand, of visiting town and witnessing some manner of debauchery they wouldn’t see anywhere else.

There’s a reason “Florida Man” has become immortalized as shorthand for a certain brand of unconventional behavior. In a city no stranger to sex and nudity, playing GTA 6 with either or both characters entirely in the buff for as long as you want to is not an event. It's childish, really, a shallow take on sexuality that equates bodies with excitement just for the sake of it.

Official GTA 6 materials prior to the most recent leak mentioned something about potentially cutting back to Jason, for example, while he's in the shower. That sounds sexy, an unexpected glimpse at a quiet, intimate moment that's entirely outside your control, and then you go back to normalcy after it ends. Heck, it'd be sexy even if the scene didn't show Jason (or Lucia) entirely nude.

Controlled, consensual reveals where the process is just as exciting as the result are inherently much sexier than just full dong or whatever. There's an art to understatement and the tease — to sexiness in general — that the people who shape popular media just don't seem to grasp. Primetime TV in the 2010s, for example, threw tits and (fake) dicks in viewers' faces seemingly at every opportunity, sometimes just because producers could, sometimes in a misguided attempt at presenting life "the way it is," despite rarely capturing the way sex and relationships really are (messy and complicated).
