A 17-year-old president of a high school Turning Point USA (TPUSA) chapter says she was berated by a mother while representing the conservative student organization at a back-to-school event. Sophia Hunt was staffing a booth at Westfield High School in Indiana last week when a young boy approached her and picked up one of the bracelets she was distributing. According to Hunt, the boy's mother pulled him away and slapped her hand when she tried to give him a bracelet.
She added that the mother cursed and screamed at her, and called the people TPUSA supports "racist, homophobic and disgusting." The mother was identified as Kailly Stanich, according to the conservative social media account Libs of TikTok. Her identity and Hunt's account of the incident have not been independently verified. Libs of TikTok also shared a clip of Stanich recounting the incident, saying: "I was seeing red and everything was out the f***ing window at that point, and I turned around and I said; 'I don’t like that you guys are supporting that piece of s**t human, talking about Charlie Kirk'." Stanich says in another clip: "Yes I am going after a child who is the president of Turning Point and likes to post racist, homophobic, transphobic things on the internet." Stanich's social media accounts have since been made private.
TPUSA figures have voiced their support for Hunt, including Erika Kirk who wrote on X: "The spiritual battle rages on, but our students don't back down. They cannot stop what my husband built. We've got your back Sophia Hunt.
Onward." TPUSA also wrote on X: "Standing up for what you believe in should never make you a target. Sophia was met with hostility simply for representing TPUSA at her school, but she didn't let it shake her. At just 17 years old, she showed the courage and composure to stand firm.
We're proud of Sophia for refusing to back down." This is a developing story.
