To complete the "Homesick" quest in Valor Mortis, you must play detective and find out what happened to a missing father. The clue to solving this mystery lies deep underground, in a hidden, easily overlooked cave. As always, it's full of undead soldiers, but this time, there's a trick that will secure a quick victory.
Here's where to go to complete the "Homesick" side quest in Valor Mortis. "Homesick" is a Chapter 4 side quest in Valor Mortis. Not long after you've defeated The Iron Marshall, found Louis, and returned to the Abandoned Church, you will enter a new region: The Caverns.
In the first tunnel behind the Last Sunlight Lantern, next to the campfire, listen to the woman's ghost. Pick up the "Longing Wife Letter" behind her to start the "Homesick" side quest. Your task is to find out why the father failed to reunite with his family.
The item needed to complete "Homesick" is at the end of a hidden (optional) cave section. First, enter the large cave chamber ahead — most enemies are regular zombie farmers, but beware of the elite enemy resting at the campfire to the left. There's also a poison-spouting enemy on the ceiling; shoot him while he's forming a poison orb.
You probably noticed the many holes in the ground; avoid all of them except the last one in the far left corner. You'll recognize the correct gap by the torchlight at the bottom. Drop down to find an underground quay and defeat the enemies wandering around the boats.
Do not use the grappling point — it's a trap! Instead, climb the ledge to the right and shoot the red explosive barrel to kill a bunch of minor enemies, then snipe the rest. Rather than fight the Risen Grenadier on your left, wait until he's standing below the glowing orb on the ceiling, then shoot the orb to crush the Grenadier.
