The Indianapolis Colts made waves this past offseason when they signed wide receiver Alec Pierce on a massive four-year, $114 million contract. Pierce underwent surgery to repair an injury to his left heel back in March. And early in Sunday night's Week 2 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, he aggravated that same surgically-repaired heel.
Pierce will reportedly rehab the injury without surgery and could return to the field sometime midseason. On Wednesday, ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler reported that the 26-year-old deep-ball threat could miss somewhere between 4-6 weeks. "The Indianapolis Colts and wide receiver Alec Pierce had a lot to work through after Sunday's aggravation of a heel injury that required surgery in the offseason," Fowler reported.
"The team and player — after getting a second opinion — are hopeful for about a four-to-six-week absence, sources said." Fowler added that it's possible Pierce's absence could extend beyond six weeks. The Colts will take the field for a Week 3 matchup against the Houston Texans this coming Sunday.
