Jaclyn Smith has claimed that one of her former Charlie’s Angels co-stars once propositioned her for a threesome. In her new memoir I Once Knew a Guy Named Charlie, the 80-year-old says the late Tanya Roberts, who died in 2021, and her husband, Barry Roberts, who died in 2006, had asked if she was interested in a threesome with them. According to People, Smith claims in the book that the couple were in an open marriage and that Roberts “wasn’t shy about it in the least, or about propositioning people to ‘swing’ with them.” Smith recalled being propositioned by the couple while on a flight to Hawaii to shoot Charlie’s Angels, but she declined.
Yet Smith said she found Roberts’ “honesty about her sexuality” to be “brave and self-aware.” Roberts played Julie Rogers in the fifth and final season of the detective series, having replaced Shelley Hack, who had previously replaced Kate Jackson in the role. Speaking to People on the 50th anniversary of the series, Smith said she still enjoys the attention from starring in the cult series. Smith gives further insight into the behind-the-scenes life on set, and writes in her memoir that cocaine became a constant presence as the series went on.

Five decades on, Charlie's Angels continues to find an audience through reruns and DVDs, having also inspired a film series starring Drew Barrymore, Cameron Diaz and Lucy Liu. Earlier this year, Smith reunited with Jackson and Cheryl Ladd at PaleyFest LA 2026. Their fellow star Farrah Fawcett died in 2009, at the age of 62.
During a talk at the festival, Jackson attributed the show’s appeal to the chemistry between the stars, saying: “It was unusual. The three of us had chemistry that was ... I mean, we’re still sisters today and you people are all so crazy that you’re still around after 50 years.
I can’t believe it.” She said she immediately knew the show would be a success, recalling: “We started shooting the pilot, and I never doubted.
