Washington Commanders wide receiver Terry McLaurin suffered a "severe" knee injury on Monday night during the primetime game against the San Francisco 49ers. McLaurin was carted off the field in an air cast on his left knee in the first quarter of the contest. It was a rough watch for all NFL fans, but specifically for McLaurin's Commanders teammates.
Washington quarterback Jayden Daniels had an emotional response to watching his top receiver suffer the injury on Monday night. You see how hard he works ... Praying for Terry," Daniels said after the game.
"He's been there for me through a lot since I came into this league, the adverse times I went through last year and so far this year, and he's been right by my side. I love Terry and appreciate him a lot.” Daniels went through a rough injury-ridden 2025 season, where he missed games because of a left knee sprain, a right hamstring strain and a dislocated left elbow. It sounds like McLaurin was there for Daniels when he needed a teammate and friend the most, so he'll likely be returning the favor this season.
It's unclear how long McLaurin is expected to be out for, if any time at all, as the official results of his injury haven't been determined yet. McLaurin leads the team with 230 receiving yards from 15 receptions. He's scored one touchdown this season.
The 1-4-1 Commanders already placed receiver Jaylin Lane on the injured reserve list, leaving the receiver room down to Stefon Diggs (214 yards, four touchdowns), Treylon Burks (152 yards) and Dyami Brown (94 yards). There's a chance the Commanders could elevate a receiver off the practice squad, or they could go shopping to add a new receiver to the squad depending how long McLaurin is expected to be out for.
