Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels re-injured his left elbow during his team's Week 2 loss to the Dallas Cowboys last Sunday, suffering a gruesome-looking dislocation on the final play of the first half. Daniels could have undergone surgery to repair the issue, but that likely would have kept him off the field for the remainder of the 2026 season. Instead, he and the team elected to forgo surgery — opting to rehab and push for a quicker return sometime in the coming weeks.
Daniels reportedly addressed the Commanders as a team this past week, saying he "owed it" to them to return as soon as possible. "Last week when his status was still up in the air, he addressed the team and told them he wasn’t getting surgery, owed it to them to get back as soon as possible and and was going to push to try to return in the coming weeks," insider Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports reports. Daniels will return to practice this week and travel with the team to London for their international matchup against the Indianapolis Colts, head coach Dan Quinn told reporters on Monday.
Quinn said Daniels is already pushing to get back on the field. "That would be him, for sure, yes. But to his credit, he's been absolutely putting in the work," Quinn said, via ProFootballTalk.
"I am excited to get him back out on the practice field." Backup QB Marcus Mariota led the Commanders to victory over the reigning Super Bowl-champion Seattle Seahawks on Sunday.
