Jerry Jones 'Could And Would' Hire Troy Aikman to Cowboys' Front Office

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said Tuesday that he "could and would" hire Troy Aikman for a front office role with the team.

Much has been made about Troy Aikman's future with ESPN as the Hall of Fame quarterback's contract as an NFL broadcaster with the network is set to expire at the end of the 2026 season. The legendary Dallas Cowboys signal-caller worked his former team's Week 7 "Monday Night Football" win against the Philadelphia Eagles and said after the contest that fans in "Big D" shouldn't "get carried away" with the victory. With Aikman's announcing gig with ESPN up in the air, longtime Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said on Tuesday that he could absolutely hire the Super Bowl XXVII MVP to the team's front office.

Jones became the owner of the franchise in February 1989, and Dallas selected Aikman as the No. 1 overall draft pick that spring. The six-time Pro Bowler spent his entire 12-year playing career with the Cowboys, leading them to Super Bowl titles during the 1992, 1993 and 1995 campaigns. Dallas hasn't won a championship or made it past the NFC divisional playoff round since winning it all during the 1995 season.

The Cowboys have made the playoffs 10 times since Aikman retired following the 2000 campaign but are just 4-10 in the tournament. Dallas has now had back-to-back sub-.500 seasons in which it failed to qualify playoffs and is 3-4 entering Week 8. The Cowboys will host the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday in an effort to get back to .500 for the third time this fall.
