The Kansas City Chiefs were the center of a controversial discussion this past week when they signed kicker Justin Tucker to their practice squad amid Harrison Butker's struggles and misses. In early 2025, 16 women alleged that Tucker engaged in sexual misconduct during and after massage sessions with them, the Baltimore Banner reported at the time. These allegations led to the Baltimore Ravens releasing their kicker after 13 seasons.
He then served a 10-game suspension handed from the NFL. No one else signed him last season or ahead of this season. When the Chiefs signed Tucker last week, personnel seemed to ignore or avoid talking about the Tucker allegations unless they were explicitly asked.
It caused the NFL world to get frustrated with how the Chiefs were handling the controversial signing. It takes just a minute to explain what happened with Tucker, which is important to note whenever talking about him. In the past with players having sexual misconduct allegations against them, NFL announcers tend to shy away from speaking on the matters.
But, when the Chiefs were playing against the Denver Broncos on Sunday, CBS Sports play-by-play announcer Jim Nantz made sure to highlight Tucker's allegations during the broadcast, prompting praise from across social media. "Of course one of the big stories this past week is that the Chiefs, because of the way Butker has struggled going all the way back to the start of last season, they signed kicker Justin Tucker to their practice squad," Nantz started as Butker kicked a field goal. "Just last year, Tucker had to serve a 10-game suspension for violating the league's personal conduct policy.
Given the multitude of allegations of nonconsensual behavior, Tucker's signing this week just drew a sharp rebuke in Kansas City and really all over the NFL landscape." Understandably, fans on social media thanked Nantz for highlighting Tucker's past during the broadcast.
