The moment Jason Kidd got fired, Jon Scheyer was floated as one of the potential names to replace him as Dallas Mavericks head coach. Scheyer was asked about the Mavericks reportedly showing interest in him when the opening came up, and how he feels about staying at Duke. "I know I'm right where I'm supposed to be," Scheyer said. "Not many people can get their dream job at 33.

He had played at Duke under Coach K from 2006 to 2010 before a brief professional career in the NBA G League, Israel, and Spain. Scheyer spent four years as an assistant before being promoted to Duke's associate head coach in 2018, a position he held until 2022, when he took over for Krzyzewski as head coach.
When you're following in the footsteps of a Hall of Famer like that, it's almost impossible to live up to the pressure. But Scheyer has somehow done it and kept Duke one of the premier programs in college basketball. As the Blue Devils' head coach, he holds an overall record of 124-25 and has made the NCAA Tournament every year, including a Final Four appearance in 2025 with Flagg leading the way.
He's also reached two other Elite Eights, won three ACC tournaments and two regular-season ACC titles, and earned ACC and NABC Coach of the Year honors last season after leading Duke to a 35-3 record and a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament.
