In 1965, Joni Mitchell moved from her homeland of Canada to the United States. First the legendary singer-songwriter resided in Detroit, then New York, and finally California, where she remains to this day. It had been reported for years that she held dual citizenship but in March CBC reported she hadn't naturalized.

Now, she's finally been sworn in as an American citizen. On Instagram, Mitchell shared a picture from the ceremony with the caption, "A journey that began 62 years ago." At a 2024 show at the Hollywood Bowl, Mitchell said, "'Fuck Donald Trump' – I love that song." She later added, "I wish I could vote – I’m a Canadian. I'm one of those lousy immigrants." In related news, Amanda Seyfried — who was supposed to star in a Joni Mitchell biopic and went viral for her cover of "California" on the dulcimer — performed another Blue track at O+ Festival over the weekend.

She did "A Case Of You," which she teased last week with a clip with her daughter on Instagram. In other related news, Mitchell's 1974 album Court And Spark is getting a new audiophile reel-to-reel edition from Rhino High Fidelity. Court And Spark (Rhino High Fidelity R2R) was duplicated in real time from a 1:1 copy of the original stereo master tape, and it's available now.
