LeBron James signed a two-year contract with the Philadelphia 76ers earlier this offseason, joining a talented roster featuring Jaylen Brown, Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey and VJ Edgecombe. The 76ers have some sky-high expectations laid out in front of them — and NBA superstar Kevin Durant believes this new-look squad will deliver on those expectations. Durant believes the James-led 76ers will be an NBA "juggernaut" this coming season.
"They're going to be a juggernaut. That's what I think," Durant said during an interview with "Boardroom." “He understands how to put a winning basketball team together. He’s been in the league for 24 years.
He should know how to understand how to do that," Durant added. "He knows how to put himself in position to be successful. "I feel like for him to take a minimum [contract] says a lot about his mindset and how he’s going to come into the team.
And they need a connector of guys that kind of somebody that understands like, all right, everybody’s not going to average 25 points on this team," Durant continued. "But it’s going to be nights you going to be the man. It’s going to be nights where you got to be the second guy, but it’s going to be moving parts throughout the whole season.
"Everybody’s role is going to change. And I think LeBron understands that.” The 76ers will begin their 2026-27 season with an Opening Night matchup against the reigning-champion New York Knicks on Oct. 20.
