Training camp is right around the corner for the New York Knicks, and every roster question this summer has circled back to one man. New York spent the offseason keeping its title-winning group together. But the health of its floor general was the one piece nobody could confirm.
That changed on the latest episode of "The Roommates Show," the podcast Jalen Brunson co-hosts with Josh Hart. The NBA Finals MVP used it to settle the matter himself. "Just wanted to tell you guys that, I'm fully cleared," Brunson said, via New York Post Sports.
The update comes months after Brunson played through visible wrist pain during the Finals run against San Antonio, a series where he still averaged 32.6 points and closed it out with 45 in Game 5. He had surgery on the wrist in July, with doctors initially saying he was looking at a 6-8 week recovery. Brunson never missed a beat publicly during that stretch, but teammates and coaches had been careful about his workload all offseason.
Getting him back to full strength before camp was always going to matter more than any roster addition New York could have made. With camp opening soon, that clearance removes the last real question mark hanging over New York's title defense. The Knicks open the season Oct. 20 at Madison Square Garden against Philadelphia, a night that also doubles as their championship ring ceremony.
That opener carries extra weight given the Sixers' offseason makeover, headlined by LeBron James and Jaylen Brown joining Tyrese Maxey's group. Brunson previewed the matchup on NBC's "Today" show, calling Philadelphia "electric" and adding that his team plans to be ready for the moment. Josh Hart, OG Anunoby and Karl-Anthony Towns are all running it back alongside him.
With Brunson healthy, the Knicks walk into camp with their whole championship core in one piece, right on the timeline they'd hoped for all along.
