LeBron James took the podium for 76ers media day on Monday, wearing his new Philadelphia uniform for the first time in public. James ended his highly-publicized free agency process earlier this offseason, signing a two-year, veteran minimum contract with the 76ers ahead of his historic 24th NBA campaign. James is in Philadelphia to compete for an NBA championship — and he made that fact very clear in his closing statement on Monday.
"In order for us to be great, we have to do things that are just not comfortable. We have to be comfortable being uncomfortable," James said. "I didn’t leave my family to lose in the second round, I know that.
Work needs to be done, and I’m ready to put the work in." James was the second of two massive additions for the 76ers this past offseason, joining former Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown. James and Brown are now part of a talented Philadelphia roster featuring Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey and VJ Edgecombe. James, 41, is still producing at an elite level.
In his final season with the Los Angeles Lakers, he averaged 20.9 points, 7.2 assists and 6.1 rebounds per game. The 76ers will begin their 2026-27 regular-season campaign with a matchup against the reigning NBA-champion New York Knicks on Oct. 20.
