Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell vowed to get his team out of mediocrity following their 2-2 start to the season.

The Detroit Lions are 2-2 to open up the 2026 NFL season after falling to the Carolina Panthers in a Week 4 matchup on Sunday night. Panthers quarterback Bryce Young diced up the Lions' bottom-of-the-league defense, completing 29 of his 41 pass attempts for 329 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions. Carolina running back Chuba Hubbard also continued his solid play on the ground, rushing for 122 yards and two scores.

The Lions are allowing more yards per game (423.8) than any team in the league so far this season. They rank second worst in points allowed per game (31.8). During a radio appearance on Tuesday, Lions head coach Dan Campbell promised that his team will emerge from mediocrity.

"We are playing average football, and that's everywhere. Not just on defense," Campbell said. "We're not going to be mediocre.

I don't accept that." The Lions' offense ranks near the top of the league in terms of production. However, it's not been enough to overcome the defense's shortcomings. Detroit will look to get back on track in a Week 5 matchup against the Arizona Cardinals this coming Sunday.
