Former Trump aide Cassidy Hutchinson faces possible DOJ indictment after several Trump allies faced charges.

Former Trump White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson is facing a potential criminal indictment after the Department of Justice (DOJ) sought charges alleging that she lied to Congress in her testimony about the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot, according to a new report from Punchbowl News. The development places Hutchinson among a growing list of current and former Trump associates who have faced criminal charges or indictments in recent years, many in connection with efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election. If prosecutors ultimately secure an indictment, Hutchinson will join several high-profile Trump advisers, lawyers and aides entangled in criminal investigations stemming from election challenges, January 6-related probes, and other federal and state cases.

Punchbowl reported Thursday that the DOJ is seeking a federal criminal indictment of Hutchinson on allegations that she lied to Congress during her testimony about January 6. The outlet reported that prosecutors recently presented evidence to a federal grand jury and are expected to call additional witnesses later this month. According to Punchbowl, Hutchinson has not been subpoenaed to appear before the grand jury.

Newsweek has reached out to the DOJ and Hutchinson's attorney for comment. Giuliani was indicted in Georgia and Arizona in cases tied to alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 election results. Prosecutors accused him of participating in efforts to challenge certified election results and promote alternate elector strategies.

Giuliani lost a $148 million defamation lawsuit for making false claims about two election workers in Georgia in 2023. He reached a settlement to pay damages awarded to the election workers. He was disbarred in New York and the District of Columbia in September.

Trump issued a federal pardon to Giuliani. Prosecutors charged Meadows in Georgia and Arizona in election-related cases stemming from efforts to challenge President Joe Biden's 2020 victory. He has denied wrongdoing and fought the charges in court.

He was held in criminal contempt of Congress for refusing to cooperate with the January 6 Select Committee. The Justice Department declined to prosecute. Trump pardoned Meadows, but that didn't affect state charges.
