Oasis fans are set for a Wonderwall experience when they get the chance to bid for unheard recordings of the Supersonic boys at their peak. The archive includes recordings of 63 live shows, soundchecks and more than 100 hours of rehearsals from the band's rise and rise in the 1990s. The lots, which also include original setlists, tour itineraries, a band-played Epiphone guitar and an Oasis tour parka, will be offered for sale on 3 October in Evesham, Worcestershire.
The collection, known as The Desk Tapes, has been in the possession of Owain Richards for 20 years, after his dad, a former front-of-house sound engineer joined the band's crew during their heyday. "Dad labelled everything, recorded everything and backed it all up to cassette, over and over," he said. "I grew up listening to these recordings.
Oasis were part of the family as much as they were part of the culture." Littleton Auctions is handling sale and say the tapes, recorded directly from the sound desk, form the only master archive of their kind. Also among the items due to go under the hammer is a pair of Adidas Kegler Super Ostrich trainers gifted to Noel Gallagher. Only 100 pairs were produced in 2000 to mark the 100th anniversary of Adidas founder Adi Dassler.
Ben Homer, managing director of Littleton Auctions, described it as "one of the most exciting collections" the auction house had brought to market. The sale will take place online and in person with bidders, who are required to register in advance and pay a deposit, hoping they won't be looking back in anger on the day.
