The buildup to the game has featured everything one could imagine, from the drama surrounding the injury report updates on LSU quarterback Sam Leavitt to Ole Miss coach Pete Golding appearing on ESPN's "College GameDay" outside the home venue. Fans are definitely hyped up for this game, with Tigers fans even showing support in the friendly skies.
On Saturday morning, a banner was flying above Oxford's Vaught–Hemingway Stadium at Hollingsworth Field with a special message. Geaux Tigers!" read large black letters on the banner, with photos surfacing on X. The X post became viral, with over 6,600 likes and 37 comments as of this writing. "This is why college football is still the best sport in America," one commenter wrote in the replies. Another said, "College sports is amazing and these guys should be praised." "If Ole Miss wins LSU fans will start their grumbling and be loud about it," a commenter wrote.
Others commented, "I’d be terrified piloting that plane" and "LSU fans are not human." Some fans even suggested Kiffin may have paid for the banner, as another mental tactic ahead of his return to face the team he spurned amid last year's College Football Playoff run. Earlier this week, LSU made headlines when their quarterback Leavitt was first listed on the injury report as "doubtful" to play against Ole Miss. That changed two more times, as Leavitt was upgraded to "questionable" several days ago, and then became available to play as of last evening's injury report.
Rebels head coach Golding, formerly Ole Miss defensive coordinator under Kiffin, even revealed a text exchange he had with Kiffin, telling him that Leavitt was "out" for the game. However, Golding responded to Kiffin, "I bet he is," fully doubting his QB's injury status. Kiffin's LSU will battle Golding's Ole Miss in a primetime showdown on Saturday night, beginning at 7:30 p.m.
