Meet the Cast and Characters of Mike Flanagan’s ‘Carrie’

It’s a (SORRY) bloody good group of actors.

Stephen King’s Carrie has been adapted so many times on screen and stage that the characters are kind of archetypical by now. It doesn’t hurt that the story takes place in a depressingly ordinary American high school, which lends itself to a certain set of stock characters. However, a new take on the teen tragedy is finally upon us thanks to Mike Flanagan.

So who plays the mean girl, the nice girl, the wannabe, the jock, the delinquent, the principal, the gym teacher, and the dork who flips the script in his Carrie adaptation? Let’s take attendance before the show premieres on Prime Video. If you’re familiar with Flanagan’s work you will recognize a lot of the supporting/minor characters as mainstays of the Flanagan clan a.k.a.

They include: Kate Siegel, Michael Trucco, Katee Sackhoff, Rahul Kohli, Ruth Codd, Gil Belows, and Olive Abercrombie. Meanwhile, supporting actors Tim Bagley, Heather Graham, Tahmoh Penikett, Naika Toussaint, and Delainey Hayles are making their Flana-clan debut. (Not sure if this will be of interest to anyone, but three members of the Carrie ensemble were on the show Battlestar Galactica in the mid-2000s. Interesting in a “not a lot of nickels, but weird that it happened thrice,” kind of way.) The main cast, on the other hand, includes a lot of actors who are stepping into Flanagan’s world for the first time.

Carrie White is a sheltered student at Thomas Ewen Consolidated High School who was, until very recently, homeschooled. Howell is a Canadian actress with many horror credits to her name, including Hunter Hunter, Night of the Reaper, Time Cut, Channel Zero, Spirit in the Blood, Curse of Chucky, and Cult of Chucky. This is her Flana-clan debut!

Margaret White is Carrie’s anti-social, religious, and overprotective to a fault mother. Samantha Sloyan’s Flana-clan credits are: Hush, The Haunting of Hill House, Midnight Mass, The Midnight Club, The Life of Chuck, and The Fall of the House of Usher. She played Joan Didion on Minx and had a recurring role on the first season of The Pitt.

You might also know her from two Shondaland shows: she was Dr. Penelope Blake on Grey’s Anatomy and Jeannine Locke on Scandal. Sue Snell is a popular student at Thomas Ewen Consolidated High School who steps back from bullying Carrie after the shower incident.
