New York Mets utility player Brett Baty has been on fire lately, but his hot streak could now be in jeopardy. Baty was removed from Wednesday's game against the Miami Marlins by the Mets due to left knee pain. It was a short evening for Baty, too, as he exited during only the second inning.
After hitting a single that drove in a run in the second inning, Baty noticeably started limping while running to first base. After this, Baty was taken out of the game and replaced by pinch-runner Christopher Morel. The timing of this injury is certainly disappointing for Baty, as he has been hitting very well at the plate.
With his single on Tuesday, the Mets' former top prospect extended his hitting streak to six games. Over that span, he has also hit three doubles and two home runs. Due to this, it is hard not to feel bad for Baty right now.
The Mets will now be hoping that Baty is not dealing with anything too serious. The five-year MLB veteran has been showing signs of improvement, so it would be rough if he needed to miss more time. In 128 games this season with New York, Baty has posted 10 home runs, 20 doubles, 49 RBI, and a .227 batting average.
This is after he recorded 18 home runs, 80 RBI, and a .254 batting average in 130 games for the Mets last season.
