Mets Quickly Cut Former All-Star Pitcher After Terrible Performance

The New York Mets have designated pitcher Chris Devenski for assignment after his bad performance against the Marlins.

The New York Mets are moving on from one of their veteran pitchers quickly after he had a performance to forget. The Mets have announced that they have designated relief pitcher Chris Devenski for assignment. In addition, the Mets shared that pitcher Jack Weisenburger has been recalled from Triple-A Syracuse.

Devenski being designated for assignment comes after he allowed five earned runs on four hits in just 0.1 innings pitched in his last appearance on Sep. 9 against the Miami Marlins. The Mets would end up winning the game, though, defeating the Marlins by a 15-14 final score. Devenski signed a minor league contract with the Mets on Aug. 11 after being released by the Pittsburgh Pirates.

He then earned a call-up to New York's MLB roster in late August before now being designated for assignment. In five games for the Mets this season, Devenski had a 0-0 record, a 13.50 ERA, and two strikeouts. He also had a 7.71 ERA in three games for the Pittsburgh Pirates this campaign before joining the Mets.

Teams looking for more pitching depth could consider taking a chance on a former All-Star like Devenski. Time will tell what happens on that front.
