It was another rough day for Michigan quarterback Bryce Underwood who was benched during his team's Saturday matchup against the Penn State Nittany Lions. He completed just 5 of 11 passes for 41 yards in an underwhelming first-half performance. With Michigan trailing 3-0 at halftime, head coach Kyle Whittingham and his staff replaced Underwood with backup Tommy Carr.
While Carr didn't have jaw-dropping numbers, he replaced Underwood to start the third quarter, helped steadily guide the team on multiple scoring drives, and had his own major scoring play in the fourth quarter. In the fourth quarter, a Penn State touchdown followed by a successful two-point conversion put them within reach of the Wolverines, as Michigan had a 14-11 lead. However, Carr later took off for a 12-yard rushing touchdown to put his team up 10 and in much better position to secure a win.

The sign of respect from Underwood was highlighted by CBS Sports, and drew plenty of praise from commenters reacting to the video clip. "I'm glad he's helping celebrate with the team instead of sulking on the bench. that has to be tough to deal with but this is the right thing to do," one commenter wrote.
"bro ran straight past the play to get to his boy thats the kind of loyalty you cant teach," someone else said. "Think he is a great kid and hard worker. Just can’t seem to figure it out on the field," another individual commented.
Other commenters wrote, "Awesome & classy of Bryce!!!!" and "Love to see it. Go Blue!" The Wolverines ultimately held off the Nittany Lions and prevailed 21-18. It was Michigan's first conference win in three games, pushing their conference record to 1-2 and overall record to 4-2.
Underwood's struggles have been apparent. He's tallied 924 passing yards, but has six interceptions compared to five touchdown passes. His QBR sits at 53.1, and he's also been sacked eight times this season.
