Mike Macdonald Gets Honest About Seahawks Letting Kenneth Walker Leave

Seattle Seahawks head coach Mike MacDonald was asked about the team's decision to let Kenneth Walker leave in free agency.

Running back Kenneth Walker III played a huge role in the Seattle Seahawks' run to a title last year, securing Super Bowl MVP honors. But after Walker helped the Seahawks secure their second Super Bowl title in franchise history, the team let him walk in free agency. Walker signed a three-year, $43.05 million deal with the Kansas City Chiefs, where he's now in the midst of his best NFL season yet.

Walker leads the NFL with 665 rushing yards, despite the Chiefs already having their bye. He's rushed for six touchdowns to go along with 95 yards and two more scores through the air as the engine of the Chiefs' offense. Meanwhile, the 3-3 Seahawks are struggling at the running back position.

When speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Seattle head coach Mike Macdonald was asked if he ever had second thoughts about letting Walker leave in free agency. "I'll just say, I love Ken. I enjoyed him being on our football team.

We have had great one-on-one conversations and built that relationship. Obviously, we have to stop him this week. Mixed emotions; we are happy for him, but we have to stop this guy too," Macdonald said, via HawkMania.

"After the Super Bowl, no one really hung out. In the van, we talked about sorts of stuff. Nothing about football [in Disneyland]," he added.

"I've had nothing but great memories with him. He won MVP and won the championship. Great things and great memories with Ken." The Chiefs will face off against Walker's former Seattle team in a primetime Week 7 matchup on Sunday.
