Vrabel isn't wrong to be concerned, as his team looked absolutely horrible in all three phases Sunday. Drake Maye continued to turn the ball over at an alarming rate, allowing the ball to slip out of his hands without any contact with another player for a fumble before throwing two interceptions -- giving him seven total turnovers in three games this season against the Seattle Seahawks, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Jacksonville Jaguars. Greg Van Roten (thigh), Christian Barmore (shoulder), and Morgan Moses (foot) all left the game with injuries, highlighting perhaps the club's issue as they have already matched the same number of players placed on injured reserve as all of last season.
Brown, Dell Pettus, and Bryce Baringer are all out for at least four games, while Craig Woodson, Dre'Mont Jones, and Eli Raridon were out with injuries Sunday. Josh McDaniels, Thomas Brown, and Doug Marrone, three former head coaches on the offensive coaching staff, have seemingly taken a step back as their unit is tracking to produce less than last season across the board. The Patriots do happen to be in the same position this season as they were at this point last season (1-2) but it didn't look nearly as bad.
The quarterback looks broken. They're not good in the trenches. The skill group isn't just without the shiny new toy, but last season's most productive players.
If they're going to turn things around, they're going to need to build up the confidence of their young signal caller, fix the broken offensive scheme, find the right pieces up front, and get healthy -- and they'll need to do it quick.
