Florida woman Katrice Simmons has been found safe, three months after she lost contact with her family and was later reported missing. Simmons was located yesterday in good health,” the Atlanta Police Department confirmed to Newsweek on Tuesday. A department spokesperson said no additional information was available.
Simmons cut off contact with her family shortly after moving from Pensacola, Florida, to Atlanta to live with a man she met online. Her family filed a missing persons investigation with the DeKalb County Police Department on August 18. The case was later transferred to the Atlanta Police Department for jurisdictional reasons, a spokesperson for the DeKalb County Police Department told Newsweek on Tuesday.
Newsweek has reached out to Simmons and her sister for comment via email on Tuesday. Newsweek also reached out to Simmons' daughter for comment via Facebook Messenger. Shaquansia Love, Simmons’ daughter, said in a Monday Facebook post, “I have no words but thank you God my MOMMY has been found.
Thank you everyone for everything I'm speechless there's a God.” In another post, Love wrote, “Hi family and friends I cannot due to safety reasons disclose where my mom is and is SAFE and that's what's important.” She continued, “I understand you all want to know but this whole entire situation was bad and I just thank God my mom is alive. She has been through a lot but again my family and I thank you for whatever role you played in my mom getting FOUND.” Details about where and how Simmons was found have not been made public yet. The family had previously traveled to try to locate Simmons after losing contact, Fox 5 Atlanta reported.
Felicia Pettiway, Simmons’ sister, also wrote in a Monday Facebook post thanking everyone for their prayers, adding, “My sister was found and we are about to lay eyes on her. Thanks everyone again God is truly amazing.” In a Tuesday post, Pettiway wrote, “My sister has been found she is safe she sends her love to each of you we have a long road ahead of us but my sister has support. Thank you all again for your prayers and support and love.” Simmons, 59, had moved from Pensacola to Atlanta in April to live with a man she met online after the relationship became serious.
Pensacola is about 325 miles from Atlanta. Her family members noted how unusual it was that Simmons was not responding to calls or messages. Simmons' nephew Amir told Fox 5 Atlanta that Simmons informed relatives in December that she "was engaged to him, soon to be married," referring to the man she had met online.
