The fire at a Polish drone factory supplying weapons to Ukraine was "deliberate arson," and Russia is likely behind the attack, Prime Minister Donald Tusk said at a cabinet meeting Wednesday. WB Electronics, where the fire broke out on Monday morning, is one of Poland’s largest private defense companies. It produces reconnaissance drones and loitering munitions, including FlyEye and Warmate, used by Ukraine against Russian forces.
The fire was soon extinguished, leaving no casualties, Polish radio reported. In Poland, in addition to the event at WB Electronics, a second fire broke out at a JFG Composites facility in Lublin on Sunday — the company produces composite components for the aerospace industry, including parts for aircraft and helicopters. In August, three drones carrying explosive material were spotted at or near the Leipzig-Halle Airport in eastern Germany, including one drone that was found near a Ukrainian Antonov plane used to transport munitions.
Chancellor Friedrich Merz's government on Tuesday accused Russia of being responsible for the incursion and announced retaliatory measures. EU officials backed Germany and called for further visa restrictions.
