There's an unexpected leading scorer in the NBA through the first week of the 2026-27 season: Memphis Grizzlies point guard Ty Jerome. Jerome is averaging 34.7 points per game, leading Luka Doncic, Devin Booker, Zach LaVine and Tyrese Maxey. Jerome opened up his 8th NBA campaign with a 45-point outing in a win over the Utah Jazz.
He followed that stellar season-opening performance with 28 points in a win over the Golden State Warriors and 31 points in a win over the Sacramento Kings. After leading the Grizzlies to a 3-0 start behind his outstanding play, the NBA announced Jerome as the first Western Conference Player of the Week. Jerome landed with the Phoenix Suns in a draft-night trade as the No. 24 overall pick in 2019.
The former Virginia standout then notched stints with the Oklahoma City Thunder, Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers before finding his current home with the Grizzlies. Jerome averaged a career-high 19.7 points per game through 15 contests with the Grizzlies in 2025-26. The Grizzlies will look to maintain their positive momentum into Monday night's early-season rematch against the Jazz, which will tipoff at 9 p.m.
