New Fauci Diaries Reveal He Wanted ‘Bizarre’ Trump To Be Impeached

Republican U.S. Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky announced the release of the new entries in a nine-post thread on X.

Anthony Fauci wrote privately in January 2019 that President Donald Trump "should be impeached." This is according to diary entries attributed to the former federal health official and released Wednesday by the Republican U.S. Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky. It appears to mark the first public disclosure of Fauci calling for Trump’s impeachment in his own words.

Earlier pandemic-era diaries released last summer had already shown he had privately called Trump "an idiot," "out of control," and "a true embarrassment." Wednesday’s publication is the second tranche explicitly presented as Fauci’s personal diary, following Paul’s July release of pandemic-era entries covering December 2019 through December 2022. However, Paul also released a separate "prequel" collection of historical records and emails spanning 2001 to July 2015. Paul announced the release in a nine-post thread on X, writing: "Today I’m releasing additional years of Dr.

Here it is…" He followed his initial post with a series of highlights from the pages, which are available for public viewing via the lawmaker’s official website. The fresh disclosure lands amid a Republican-led congressional effort to scrutinize Fauci’s decisions and records from his decades in government. The documents sharpen questions for former officials, lawmakers and scientists over political neutrality, government recordkeeping and the presentation of disputed research.

Newsweek reached out to Fauci via an email to Georgetown University, where he serves as a Distinguished University Professor in the School of Medicine's Department of Medicine, for further comment on Thursday morning. Newsweek also reached out to the White House and the National Institutes of Health (NIH) for comment via email on Thursday morning and is awaiting responses. Paul, the senator who chairs the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, is using the diary as part of a broader investigation into Fauci’s conduct.

The committee voted 8-5 along party lines in August to approve a contempt resolution after he invoked the Fifth Amendment 111 times during a hearing. Democrats on the committee argued that the investigation was one-sided and that Fauci could still face legal exposure despite receiving a federal pardon covering conduct from January 1, 2014, through January 19, 2025. The 203-page package fills a gap between earlier records and the COVID-era journal published this summer.

It carries the label "Released by Chairman Rand Paul." Its sharpest passages trace Fauci’s deteriorating opinion of the incoming president. On January 21, 2017, after family members attended women’s marches in Washington, Boston and San Francisco, he criticized Trump for boasting about his inauguration crowd and attacking the press during a CIA appearance. "He is acting amaxingly [sic] unpresidential!" the entry said.
