New Girl fans have been dealt a blow after show creator Liz Meriwether has said there are “no scripts” for a reunion. Her comments come after Max Greenfield, who played insecure playboy Schmidt on the hit Fox series, claimed a reunion was happening. New Girl originally aired between September 2011 until May 2018 and followed quirky teacher Jess (Zooey Deschanel) who moves into a Los Angeles loft with three men – Nick (Jake Johnson), Schmidt (Greenfield) and Winston (Larmorne Morris) – after a breakup.
The series received critical acclaim and was a ratings hit, too, drawing 10 million viewers in the US with its pilot episode. Since the final episode aired, fans have been petitioning for a reunion, and had their hopes raised earlier this month after Greenfield appeared on The Today Show. At the time, she responded to Greenfield’s comments on Instagram with a video in which she joked: “Max told everybody that there’s amazing scripts of a New Girl reunion that I’ve written. I don’t know.” Greenfield clarified his remarks with the publication, joking that he was confused because the cast, including Deschanel, Johnson, Morris and Hannah Simone, who played Cece, will reunite to receive the Rising Phoenix award at the Chrysalis Butterfly Ball in Los Angeles on 10 October. Elsewhere this month guest star Jamie Lee Curtis recently had to address an uproar she caused after admitting she had an “awful” experience filming on the show.
