Lionsgate is putting viewers’ endurance and bravery to the test with two immersive showings of its new thriller Fall 2: Deadpoint. Ahead of the September 2 theatrical debut of the new mountain-climbing movie, a sequel to the 2022 survival thriller Fall, there will be two special screenings in Los Angeles, where viewers will have to stand on a literal ledge throughout the entire film. The stunt is designed to tap into the “fear of heights, as well as the exposure, vulnerability, and survival that define Fall 2: Deadpoint,” according to Metro UK.
If audience members fall or step off the specially constructed ledge at any point during the invite-only August 22 screenings, their viewing experience will end. It’s unknown how tall or wide the ledge is. The Independent has contacted Lionsgate for comment.
Directed by brothers Michael and Peter Spierig (Jigsaw), Deadpoint stars Harriet Slater and Arsema Thomas as two rock climbers who find themselves fighting for their lives when a mountain rock slide leaves them stranded on a fragile plank more than 3,000 feet in the air. It also features Tom Brittney. The movie comes four years after Scott Mann’s Fall, starring Grace Caroline Currey and Virginia Gardner as best friends who climb a 2,000-foot-tall abandoned radio tower, only to be left to their own devices when they find themselves stranded at the top.
Both films come from the same production studio responsible for Curry Barker’s blockbuster horror movie Obsession. This thrill-inducing screening experience is not the first of its kind. Last year, Lionsgate similarly hosted special screenings of its adaptation of Stephen King’s dystopian horror novel The Long Walk, during which audiences were had to walk on a treadmill while watching the film.

At a speed of three miles per hour, viewers were required to walk the duration of the movie. If they stopped for even a second or fell below the speed threshold, they were immediately kicked out. The Long Walk starred David Jonsson, Cooper Hoffman, Ben Wang and Garrett Wareing as a group of teenagers participating in a grueling high-stakes contest, where they must continuously walk or be shot by a military escort.
