The San Francisco 49ers took down the visiting Denver Broncos with a 24-14 final score on Sunday, extending their flawless record to 4-0. Linebacker Dre Greenlaw notched a short stint with head coach Sean Payton and the Broncos in 2025, before he was ultimately released in March. Greenlaw used this as motivation throughout Sunday's Week 4 win, pointing at Payton and yelling at the Broncos' sideline on multiple occasions.
After the game, Greenlaw ran toward Payton at midfield and yelled "Get the [expletive] off my field" in his former coach's face. New video of this incident hit social media on Monday morning. Greenlaw said he hadn't spoken with Payton since November of last year, and claimed the coach never told him he was being cut.
"I just haven't talked to him in months or even since I was on the team so it's kind of like it's just a lot," Greenlaw told reporters postgame. Greenlaw finished the game with a team-high 12 tackles and a forced fumble. "I was half blacked out, but I just know my teammates just had my back, and they just told me to be smart," he added.
"I'm thankful to have the teammates that just have my back and just understand me. ... They helped a lot." From Payton's side, there's no hard feelings. "I think the world of him, love everything about him," Payton said.
"He plays with that emotion, [it's] all good."
