For example, ESPN reported that $1,000 was the "get-in price" earlier this week for the Knicks' season opener against the Philadelphia 76ers, which seemed high for an initial ticket sale made available to the public.
Madison Square Garden Sports recently addressed the "mistake," indicating they would restart sales shortly with new prices. In addition, they said that fans who had already bought individual game tickets would be refunded for the difference between the new prices and what they paid. We are rolling back to last year's prices plus an average increase of 12%. Our intention was never to overcharge our loyal fans, and we thank everyone for their support of the Knicks and their patience as we get this right," Madison Square Garden Sports said in the message to fans, per The Athletic's Fred Katz.
The New York Knicks' season opener is on Tuesday, Oct. 20, against the 76ers, and will feature Knicks players receiving their NBA championship rings. It also will feature a new-look, star-studded 76ers lineup, with LeBron James and Jaylen Brown joining the starting five this season. The team made a blockbuster trade with the Boston Celtics to bring Brown, the 2024 NBA Finals MVP and five-time All-Star, to Philly.
Then they wowed everyone by signing one of the NBA's greatest players ever. James, seemingly nearing his retirement, signed a two-year deal with the 76ers as a free agent after spending eight years playing for the Los Angeles Lakers. Should he help them win a championship, it would make NBA history, as he would have won championships with four different teams during his career.
