As all AMC moviegoers know, “heartbreak feels good in a place like this.” But for New Yorkers, this heartbreak is hitting close to home. Variety can report that the AMC Kips Bay 15, the movie theater chain’s second-largest multiplex in Manhattan, will close at the end of the year. With its 15 screens, the Kips Bay location has been beloved by locals for its wider range of films and its towering Imax screen.
It also provides an alternative for midtown fans who want to avoid the hustle and bustle of the Empire 25 location near Times Square and the 34th Street 14 outside Madison Square Garden. In addition to those, the closure of Kips Bay leaves the 19th Street 6, Village 7, Lincoln Square 13, Orpheum 7, 84th Street 6 and Magic Johnson Harlem 9 locations left in Manhattan. AMC took over operations of AMC Kips Bay 15 in 2006, and we are immensely grateful to our guests for their loyalty and support throughout the years,” the statement continued.
