NFL Insider Gives Massive Sam Darnold Injury Update

NFL Network's Mike Garafolo gave an injury update on Seattle Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold Tuesday morning.

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold's season debut in Week 1 versus the New England Patriots lasted all of five plays thanks to an injury he suffered in the team's 13-10 win. Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald said following the contest that initial tests "ruled out a hip fracture" for Darnold. ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter later reported that a source told him that Seattle "dodged a bullet" with its signal-caller's situation, though Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio wrote Sunday evening that Darnold could still be sidelined for four to six weeks.

NFL Network's Mike Garafolo provided another update on the two-time Pro Bowler's injury Tuesday morning, which was first reported as a hip issue before being revealed to be a glute ailment. If Darnold indeed returns in four weeks as Garafolo reported as a possibility, that would put the Super Bowl champion in line to potentially suit up for the Seahawks' Week 6 "Thursday Night Football" showdown against the Denver Broncos. Darnold finished Week 1 just 1-for-2 with 13 passing yards before exiting due to injury.

Veteran backup Drew Lock stepped up in his teammate's absence, finishing the victory 16-for-22 with 187 passing yards, one touchdown and no interceptions while adding two rushing attempts for 13 yards. Darnold has a streak of 39 consecutive starts without missing a contest (including the playoffs) that is likely to end on Sunday when Seattle takes on the Arizona Cardinals in Week 2. The Seahawks play the Washington Commanders on the road in Week 3 and host the Los Angeles Chargers and San Francisco 49ers in Weeks 4 and 5, respectively, before their primetime battle with the Broncos.
