NFL Insider Sounds the Alarm on Justin Jefferson After Vikings' Loss

Adam Schefter spoke on Justin Jefferson's frustration after the Vikings' loss, raising questions about his future in Minnesota.

The Minnesota Vikings dropped their first game of the season on Sunday, losing 19-15 against their NFC North rival Detroit Lions at Ford Field. The Vikings had every opportunity to extend their six-game winning streak, but their offense once again failed to get much going for most of the game, finishing with just 266 total yards and two touchdowns. Justin Jefferson was one of the biggest talking points after the game.

The star wideout finished with five catches for 33 yards and one touchdown on nine targets, with his longest reception going for just nine yards. He was also targeted just once in the entire second half, despite the Vikings playing from behind almost the entire time. Jefferson didn't speak with reporters after the loss and looked visibly frustrated on the sideline at different points in the game.

On Monday morning's edition of ESPN's "Get Up," NFL insider Adam Schefter weighed in on Jefferson's frustration and what it could mean for his future in Minnesota. "When you don't speak, you speak," Schefter said. "Kyler Murray voiced it himself; he said that Justin Jefferson is frustrated.

You just wonder how long something like that is sustainable because when he gets one target in the second half, and he looks the way he did at the end of the game, and he's not talking to reporters, you know he's not happy. And if the best player on your team isn't happy, then that's not a good thing." In six games this season, he's hauled in just 28 receptions for 335 yards and four touchdowns, putting him on pace to finish with under 1,000 receiving yards for the first time in his career.

He still has yet to surpass 100 yards in a game this season and has finished with fewer than 50 yards in half of his games. While he's already doubled his touchdown total from last year, his overall production has dropped, which is a concern given that last season's 1,058 receiving total was already a career low for him. Minnesota's quarterback play and overall offensive struggles have been major factors, but you have to wonder how much longer an elite player like Jefferson will want to stick around if things don't change.

While it seems unlikely the team would ever seriously consider dealing its best player, a trade isn't impossible. If the passing game continues to struggle and they can't find a way to get him more involved, he could force his way out of Minnesota.
