NFL Insider Warns Dak Prescott's Time With Cowboys Could Be Running Out

The Cowboys suffered another painful defeat and an NFL analyst has warned Dak Prescott's time in Dallas could be coming to an end.

The Dallas Cowboys fell 33-30 in overtime against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, blowing a 14-point lead in the fourth quarter and dropping to 3-5 on the season. Dallas looked like it was finally starting to build some momentum after beating Philadelphia the previous week, but its defense couldn't close out yet another game. Dak Prescott went 19 of 29 for 195 yards and one touchdown, while adding another score on the ground.

After the game, Prescott admitted it was one of the toughest losses of his NFL career, saying he couldn't remember a more disappointing one. According to former NFL quarterback and analyst Chris Simms, there have now even been questions about Prescott's future in Dallas. "There’s been some murmurs in Dallas that they’re a little bit like at the end of their rope with Dak Prescott," Simms said.

"Like things better turn around or he ain’t gonna be the quarterback there next year." He's currently on pace for over 4,300 passing yards and 30 touchdowns, which would both likely rank near the top of the league by the end of the season. However, he has also been more inconsistent this season than in years past, and more importantly, the Cowboys are struggling to win games.

He's also 33 years old and, for all his individual success, still hasn't made it past the Wild Card round of the playoffs in his 11 years with the franchise. The deal runs through 2028, includes $129 million fully guaranteed at signing, and reportedly gives him a no-trade clause.

His projected cap hit also jumps to around $76 million in 2027, making it difficult for the Cowboys to move off him if they decide it's time for a change. At 3-5, the Cowboys face an important stretch of their season. They visit Indianapolis on Sunday before hosting the 49ers, Titans, and Eagles.

If they can't start stringing together wins, Prescott's days in Dallas could very well be numbered.
