The unsportsmanlike conduct penalty was costly for the Commanders, who had to settle for an extra point to make it a 17-16 game instead of being able to go for a two-point conversion and try to tie the game up. The Commanders attempted to go for two when they scored their next touchdown, but it was unsuccessful, and Washington lost 24-22. "The NFL fined Commanders WR Stefon Diggs $14,926 for unsportsmanlike conduct (illegal celebrations and vulgar acts) — jumping onto the goalpost after his TD last week against the Eagles," Pelissero posted on X. "Diggs was penalized and now a fine on top of it." When speaking to reporters after the game, Daniels said the Commanders needed to be "smarter" in those situations. That’s on me for not reiterating that in the huddle.

He was the second-leading receiver for the Commanders in Week 1, recording four catches for 55 yards and the touchdown.
