This week, the Philadelphia Eagles and Jacksonville Jaguars face off in London, the San Francisco 49ers will play the reigning Super Bowl champion Seahawks in Seattle, and Josh Allen takes on Matthew Stafford on "Monday Night Football." There were 23 games decided by one score over the past two weeks, which is tied for the most in a two-week span in NFL history. A total of 18 games this season were decided by a game-winning score in the final four minutes or in overtime, which is tied for the second-most through Week 4. The NFL always delivers, and we are expecting more fireworks in Week 5.
Which teams should you pick, and which should you fade? CBS Sports writers Jordan Dajani and Jared Dubin are here to break down the biggest games of the weekend. For clarity, lines for these selections were taken on Oct. 6 over at DraftKings Sportsbook.
Dajani (Cowboys -8.5): I found myself rooting for new Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Jalon Daniels against the Green Bay Packers last Sunday, given his story. Undrafted to now replacing Baker Mayfield in the starting lineup! I actually nailed the final score of that game at 17-14, and proudly boasted Bucs +3.5.
Daniels kept up with Jordan Love, throwing for 148 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions to go along with 55 yards rushing, but the Cowboys are a different animal. It's true their defense is very much a work in progress, but Dak Prescott's offense is averaging over 30 points per contest. It's going to be tough for the Bucs offense to keep pace with CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens at home in primetime.
The Buccaneers haven't even covered the spread this year, and I'm not sure that streak ends Thursday night. … Prediction: Cowboys 30, Buccaneers 20 Dubin (Cowboys -8.5): Dallas' offense is too much for Tampa — or anyone else — to handle. Perhaps if the Buccaneers still had Mayfield under center, they could win a shootout, but even the version of Mayfield that was out there to start this season would have made that pretty unlikely. I suppose it's possible the Bucs could muscle and run their way to a win, but given how the offensive line has started the season, I don't see it happening in this one. … Prediction: Cowboys 34, Buccaneers 17 Dajani (Jaguars -7): Our London Jaguars fans must feel proud.
The team they've supported for years returns to the United Kingdom as arguably the best team in the AFC, and they will take on a squad that looks like it's flailing. The Eagles blew a 10-point lead to the Los Angeles Rams in the final four minutes of the fourth quarter last Sunday, and went an incredible 0-12 on third downs. If that wasn't bad enough, franchise legend right tackle Lane Johnson decided to retire on Tuesday to focus on his mental health, and the team traded left guard Cam Jurgens to the Baltimore Ravens on Wednesday.
