The Philadelphia Flyers have had a terrible start to the 2026-27 season. The Flyers currently have a 0-2-2 record and a minus-12 goal differential. This is certainly not how the Flyers were expected to start their season after they took a big step in the right direction during this past campaign.
Now, as the Flyers continue to struggle, they are being linked to a notable trade candidate from the Detroit Red Wings. During a recent episode of The FAN Hockey Show, NHL insider Elliotte Friedman said that he believes the Flyers are among the teams expressing interest in Detroit Red Wings defenseman Simon Edvinsson. "I gotta think that they are one of the teams circling around on Edvinsson," Friedman said about the Flyers.
Hearing that the Flyers are an expected suitor for Edvinsson is not surprising in the slightest. It is clear that they could use a high-impact defenseman on their left side, and acquiring Edvinsson would provide them with just that. Furthermore, at just 23 years old, Edvinsson would be a perfect fit in the Flyers' young core.
In addition, he is still young enough that he could grow his game further. Thus, he would be a perfect pickup for a team like Philadelphia. Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see if the Flyers' expected interest in Edvinsson leads to them landing him.
There is no question that the Red Wings' young star will be generating a lot of trade interest from other clubs, though.
